IN THE MATTER OF THE PUBLIC UTILITIES

IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION BY

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR HYDRO

(THE AAPPLICANT@) FOR APPROVAL OF AN

AMENDMENT TO ORDER P.U. 19 (1999-2000)

PURSUANT TO S.41(3)(b) AND 76 OF THE ACT.

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS Section 41 (3) of the Act requires that a public utility shall not proceed with the construction, purchase or lease of improvements or additions to its property where

(a)        the cost of the construction or purchase is in excess of $50,000; or

(b)        the cost of the lease is in excess of $5,000 in a year of the lease without the prior approval of the Board; and

 

WHEREAS in Order P. U. 19 (1999-2000), dated November 25, 1999, the Board approved the Applicant’s Capital Budget for the year 2000  (the “Capital Budget Order”); and

 

WHEREAS in Order P. U. 9 (2000-2001) dated June 16, 2000 and P. U. 16 (2000-2001) dated July 31, 2000 the Board subsequently approved amendments to the Capital Budget Order; and

           

WHEREAS on August 16, 2000 the Applicant applied to the Board for approval of three additional proposed capital projects for the year 2000; and

 

            WHEREAS Hydro has provided additional information as requested by the Board; and

 

            WHEREAS Hydro has estimated that the cost of the additional capital projects in 2000 will be $1,404,600 and shall include:

 

·                    the upgrade to the generation and distribution facilities at Charlottetown ($953,000);

·                    the additional generation and fuel storage capacity at Davis Inlet ($449,500); and

·                    changes to the diesel plant substation transformer capacity at Black Tickle ($2,100).

 

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT:

 

1.         Pursuant to Section 41 (3) of the Act, the Board approves:

(i)                  the upgrade to the generation and distribution facilities at Charlottetown;

(ii)                the additional generation and fuel storage capacity at Davis Inlet; and

(iii)               changes to the diesel plant substation transformer capacity at Black Tickle

at a cost of $1,404,600.

 

2.         Order P. U. 19 (1999-2000), as amended by Orders No. P. U. 9 & 16 (2000-2001), is hereby amended, mutatis mutandis.
